Monthly Payout Adjustments
February 1, 2008 01:00 AM
If you elected to receive your benefit via the 5-, 10-, 15- or 20-year payout option, your payment at the end of January was adjusted to reflect 2007’s investment performance. If you are receiving a 5-year payout and you are a U.S. citizen or resident alien, your federal income tax withholding was adjusted as well to 20% of the gross amount of your monthly benefit as required by federal law.
If you are a non-resident alien receiving a monthly benefit, however, your income tax withholding will be adjusted to reflect the withholding required by the treaty between your country and the United States. (For Canadian citizens, that amount is 15% of the gross amount of your monthly benefit.)
