2007 Tax Changes
February 1, 2007 01:00 AM
If you receive an IRS refund this year, you can direct the refund to be split among three accounts as long as these accounts accept direct deposits. These can be accounts held with banks, mutual funds, brokerage firms or credit unions. Also, if you receive a refund, you can track it through the IRS website.
For all taxpayers who earned $52,000 or less, free e-filing services are available. Go to the IRS website (www.irs.gov) to view software products available for this year's Free File.
Even if you do not owe any taxes, you might still be eligible for the Telephone Excise Tax refund. Visit the IRS website or talk to a tax professional to see if you qualify.
Filers have an extended deadline this year as April 15 falls on a Sunday and April 16 is Emancipation Day, a legal holiday in Washington, D.C.
Returns are due Tuesday, April 17.
